New York - US aluminium manufacturer Alcoa has been accused of bribery and fraud by a Bahrain company, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. A suit filed in a court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - the home of Alcoa - by Bahrain's Alba alleges that over a 15-year period Alcoa steered payments to a group of companies in order to pay kickbacks to a Bahraini "senior government official."
Alba, which is 77-per-cent controlled by the Bahrain government, also accuses Alcoa of overcharging it for an aluminium precursor material.
Alcoa spokesman Kevin Lowery said "we are completely unaware of any wrongdoing by the company or its employees."
Alcoa is one of the world's largest aluminium producers.
