Hong Kong - Hong Kong popstar Eason Chan may donate part of his liver to save his sick father, who serving six-year sentence for corruption, a court report said Thursday. Chan or one of his siblings may act as donor to his father, Chan Kau-tai, who suffers from hepatitis B and cirrhosis of the liver and has been on the waiting list for a transplant since 2003, said the report in the South China Morning Post.
The 62-year-old was jailed in 2006 after being convicted of nine counts of accepting advantages while working as a chief buildings services engineer for the civil service.
At the Court of Appeal Wednesday, lawyer Andrew Macrae appealed for Chan's release saying he would stand a better chance of recovery from the transplant if at home.
A panel of judges were expected to make a decision Thursday.
Eason Chan, 34, shot to fame at the age 21 when he entered a talent show in Hong Kong. He is one of Canto-pop's best known stars and is affectionately known as King of the Kareoke.
