Berlin - The German parliament approved tighter gun-control laws on Friday in a move designed to stop the spread of violent crime. The new legislation bans the carrying of replica firearms and so- called airsoft guns as well as certain types of knives.

"The change to the gun control laws will ensure greater security ... and counter threatening situations in public places," said Reinhard Grindel, a domestic affairs spokesman for Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats.

There are around 3 million imitation and airsoft guns in circulation in Germany. It is often difficult for police to tell them from real ones when confronting suspects.

The new law bans the public display of fake guns and airsoft weapons, which work on the principle of compressed gas expanding to force a pellet down the gun's barrel.

It will also be forbidden to carry combat knives and knives with a fixed blade longer than 12 centimetres.

People caught violating the new law will be subject to a fine of 10,000 euros (14,800 dollars).

the criminals will continue to break the law in germany and commit crimes with guns. With these new laws the law abiding citizens won't be able to do anything against a madman who's killing people with an Ak-47! By passing these ridiculous laws, the security in Germany will only get worse and not better.

Government says: Don't use toys, use the real thing
By: Corey , Mon, 25 Feb 2008 11:58:28 GMT

I'm so glad they banned toy guns. With this action, the German government is encouraging robbers to use real guns, like any good robber should. That's just what we want isn't it.

And of course, we can all rest assured that criminals will obey the new laws. A person willing to commit murder or armed robbery will surely be detered by prospect of a small fine

German Gun Laws

These people have really got it down pat. But shouldn't they make it illegal to even talk about toy weapons, or for that matter, even THINK about them? Until they do this, no one in the world will really be safe !!
