Vienna - Four additional fans are expected to travel to Austria for every ticket holder at Euro 2008, the country's federal railway OeBB said on Wednesday. Around one million tickets are on offer for the entire June 7-29 tournament hosted by Austria and Switzerland, adding according to the OeBB's calculation another two million-plus travellers for the period in Austria.
OeBB CEO Josef Halbmayr said at a press conference this number was based on past experience with large-scale events.
According to the Austrian press agency APA, the OeBB expects fans from Germany and Croatia to travel by train. The fans of other teams would were more likely to use cars or travel to to Euro by plane.
Cooperation and flexibility with other European rail networks was a key, Halbmayr said, also with regards to security as information on potential troublemakers would need to be shared between the countries.
