Hong Kong - More than 200 viewers phoned in complaints to a television company after one of the stars at the centre of a nude photo scandal appeared on a charity show, news reports said Monday. Most callers said it was inappropriate for singer Gillian Chung to appear on the Sunday night show that was held to raise money for victims of China's recent snowstorms, the South China Morning Post reported.

The show on the TVB station featured the first public performance by Chung of the Canto-pop duo Twins since the scandal erupted.

Explicit photographs appearing to show Chung and actor-singer Edison Chen were among several images that appeared online, were distributed by e-mail and published in local newspapers early this month.

Both Chung and Chen, who were rumoured to be romantically linked in the past, have apologized to fans without confirming whether the images are genuine photographs.

However, reports and online forums claimed the photos came from a laptop that Chen took to a computer centre to be repaired.

The scandal has tainted the reputation of Hong Kong's saccharine-sweet Canto-pop stars and sparked a row over internet freedom after the arrests of nine people in connection with the publication and distribution of the photographs.

The case has also brought criticism against the police force for its handling of the investigation.
