Singapore - A Singapore Airlines (SIA) stewardess is suing the wife of a top manufacturing executive after claiming that the woman slapped her during a flight to Tokyo, news reports said on Wednesday. Then Jiamin, 25, said she was assaulted by Tan Siew Hoon, married to Venture Corp chairman and Chief Executive Officer Wong Ngit Liong, according to court documents cited by The Straits Times.

The alleged assault was said to have taken place in the business class section on September 20, The Straits Times said.

Then, who has been with SIA for two years, is seeking unspecified damages for "emotional and mental distress," according to the documents filed by her lawyers in the Subordinate Courts. The maximum amount that may be awarded is 250,000 Singapore dollars (170,000 US dollars).

Tan apparently became upset when the stewardess was serving Wong. The stewardess claims Tan slapped her when the flight was about 80 minutes from Tokyo's Narita Airport.

Tan reportedly asked the stewardess in a loud voice, "Why are you talking to my husband?"

Then made a police report and received medical treatment when the flight landed at Narita. She lodged another report with Singapore police when she returned.
