Tokyo - Japan expressed regret Friday at the serious protests in Australia over the shooting of a whale cow and her calf by Japanese whalers. "Japan will express its regret through a diplomatic channel as we see a comment (by an Australian minister) that appears not to be level-headed," Fishing Minister Masatoshi Wakabayashi was quoted by Kyodo news agency as saying. Wakabayashi was referring to the publication of pictures of the whale-killings by Australia and commentary by Australian Environment Minister Peter Garrett on Thursday that the killings were sickening. He said Australia should adopt a calmer attitude in the matter. An Australian customs vessel took pictures of the Japanese whalers killing and dragging the mother and calf on board in the seas off Antarctica. "I think it's explicitly clear from these images that this is indiscriminate killing of whales," Garrett said. Japan insists that the killings are for scientific purposes and within the regulations laid down by the International Whaling Commission.

Peter Garrett should publish these pictures and the rest, without apology to the Japapnes Government, the Japanese strong condemnation should be put in the loos as toilet paper. This issue of calm the Japanese keep briniging up is only used as a bully tactic, indirectly threatening trade agreement etc. Well Sod Calm! these whales do not belong to the Japanese people or the IWC, they belong to themselves, and I can assure you nothing wants to die an aggonising, long slow death, sometimes been butchered before death has occured. Whales do not pass into uncociousness as you or I would, they stay concious, there is no way to say a whale is dead, so the mother and calf could well have been butchered alive. These whales don't want to be murdered. The only good research leaves the subject undisturbed in their natural environment, so leathal and invasive research adds nothing that we need. No one can now research the dead mother and calf where as they could of been studied naturally in their own environment if left alone.
If we stop buying Japanese, then they cant stop trading with us, we choose not to trade with them, they have then lost thier bullying threat.
Peter Garrett, should publish all these pictures, and supply Sea Shepherd with the co-ordinates of the whaling fleet so that they can do the job the Australian Government, or any other Government in the world wont do.
Right now Sea Shepherd is the whales only hope of living through this antarctic summer.

Research my ass! This is absolutely sickening! These Japanese ships should be sunk for research purposes. I'm sure we could learn a lot about how ships go down that way.

everyone needs to be upset and outraged by what the japanese are doing in no way is this for research, it is a thinly veiled whaling for profit mission and nothing else and until the rest of the world gets upset and outraged they will continue to murder these magnifacent mammals, i am not a peta fanatic, or a vegatarian, i love meat and fish but not at expense of mammals that our echosystem is so dependant on, and who knows how intellagent these animals, the animals that i eat are raised for that purpose, are not endangered and do not have that kind of intellengence, i also used to raise most of the animals that i ate so i know where my food comes from and that it didn't get they already in packages in the store, what the japanese are doing is nothing but lying and are going to throw the whole ocean out of wack, most anyone else who does whale, porpoise, and dolphin do not destroy the animals that they do research on except where there is no other way and i don't beleive other countries do much of any killing in the name of research, SHAME ON YOU IN JAPAN AND THE PEOPLE WHO EAT AND USE THESE PRODUCTS, THIS IS LIKE KILLING MOUNTAIN GORILLAS TO MAKE ASHTRAYS OUT OF THEIR HANDS, SHAME SHAME SHAME ON ALL OF YOU, YOUR ANSESTORS WOULD NOT WANT YOU TO DO THIS AND LIE ABOUT IT HOW DARE YOU
