Manila - Animal welfare activists on Friday advised Filipino men to go vegetarian ahead of Valentine's Day next week, warning that eating meat could lead to "dead wood in the bedroom."In a new campaign targeting motel patrons, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said that vegetarianism can help men "rise to the occasion" on Valentine's Day.
The group said it will put up posters that say, "Eating meat got you down? Get it up. Go vegetarian!" in popular motels in Manila early next week.
The poster shows a motel patron who is "obviously not 'up' to the task" and warns that "a daily diet of meat can lead to lonely nights."
"A man who stuffs his belly full of dead pigs in the kitchen might end up delivering a dead wood in the bedroom," PETA Asia-Pacific Director Jason Baker said
PETA claimed that what goes on in the kitchen has much to do with what goes on in the bedroom.
"The cholesterol in meat, eggs and dairy products causes hardening of the arteries, which slows the flow of blood to all the body's organs, not just the heart," the group said in a statement.
"Meat-linked hardening of arteries can lead to softening of vital organs."
Valentine's Day is a big event in the Philippines, where couples celebrate the occasion by going out to dinner, staying in motels or hotels overnight, and going to concerts.
