WARSAW, Poland, Feb. 7 An agreement to link the power grids of Poland and Lithuania is expected to be signed in Warsaw Feb. 12, Lithuanian Economics Minister Vyatas Navickas said.

Navickas discussed energy cooperation with Polish, Latvian and Estonian economics ministers in Vilnius, Lithuania, Polish news agency PAP reported.

Polish Economics Minister Waldemar Pawlak said the linking of the grids is a "matter of overriding importance." He said Poland expects to get a "satisfying share both in the enterprise for the construction of a new power station, and then in electric power."

Plans were also discussed to build the Amber gas pipeline from Russia through the Baltic countries and Poland to Western Europe as an alternative to the Baltic Sea Nord Stream gas pipeline.
