LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Feb. 7 Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Thursday he remained committed to his bid to be the Republican U.S. presidential nominee.
"This is a two-man race for the nomination, and I am committed to marching on," Huckabee said in a statement issued in Little Rock, Ark. "I believe in the importance of a strong national defense -- which includes winning the war against Islamic extremists and the protection of American sovereignty."
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney announced he was suspending his campaign to be the GOP presidential standard-bearer.
U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona, based on Super Tuesday results, is the front-runner to be the party nominee.
"The issues that got me into this campaign -- protecting life and traditional marriage, enacting the Fair Tax, and border security -- are going to keep me in this campaign," Huckabee said. "As a true authentic, consistent, conservative, I have a vision to bring hope, opportunity and prosperity to all Americans, and I'd like to ask for and welcome the support of those who had previously been committed to Mitt." NNeedle,
Thanks for your assessment. Thanks for joining all the mainstream media is dismissing Huckabee. How would you like to run in California, Conn., NY and NJ when ever pundit had out and out dismissed you? It is hilarious that the media has beaten Huckabee down in ignoring him in debates, news coverage, etc. and then complain that he is incapable of expanding his base. Despite this, he wins five states and narrowly loses two more and news reports incredulously wonder why he is staying in the race. Why does the media want to run him out so fast? Why have they beat his candidacy down so much? And, the real question: what happens if McCain has a heart attack next week?
