NEW YORK, Jan. 8 Emergency officials in and around New York City Monday tried to determine the source of a strong smell of natural gas wafting throughout the city.New York City Fire Department spokesman Tim Hinchley told WCBS-AM, New York, that calls about the smell began coming in about 9 a.m.The odor was noticeable from Jersey City, N.J., into Manhattan, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey suspended PATH train service between New Jersey and 33rd Street in Manhattan until the source of the smell was located.New York 1 television reported some office workers were evacuated from buildings and at least one woman was taken away by ambulance, apparently overcome by the smell, The New York Times said.The natural gas supplier for the city, Consolidated Edison, said it was investigating.Copyright 2007 by UPI
