San Francisco - Cisco Systems, the world's leading maker of networking gear, reported a 17 per cent rise in revenue and a 7.2 per cent jump in profits Wednesday. The Silicon Valley company recorded second quarter income of 2.06 billion dollars, or 33 cents a share, compared with 1.92 billion dollars, or 31 cents a share, a year earlier. Net sales rose 17 per cent to 9.83 billion dollars from 8.44 billion dollars in the year- ago period.
Cisco said that product sales rose 16 per cent to 8.25 billion dollars while service sales rose 18 per cent to 1.59 billion dollars.
"Cisco delivered another solid quarter with strong revenue and order growth driven by a broad base of geographies, products, services and customer markets," said John Chambers, chairman and CEO, Cisco. "Cisco's ability to understand market transitions, whether technology or business model-based, continues to be a key contributing factor to our long-term success."
