Seeking to provide more choices to consumers hooked on Apple products, the company has added extra capacity to the iPhone and the iPod Touch. New models are now available in 16 GB capacity for the iPhone and up to 32 GB capacity for the iPod Touch.

In January Apple revealed that had sold 4 million iPhones since the device was released on June 29 last year. Previously the iPhone was available in 8 GB and 4 GB models, but Apple scrapped the 4 GB model after consumers ordered the 8 GB model in huge numbers.

Now Apple has increased the storage capacity of its iconic device to 16 GB. "Now people can enjoy even more of their music, photos and videos on the most revolutionary mobile phone and best Wi-Fi mobile device in the world," said Greg Joswiak, vice president of Worldwide iPod and iPhone Product Marketing at Apple.

The new models will include the new software announced at the Macworld conference in January. Prime among the software enhancements are the capability to edit the home screen as well as the ability to find your precise location using the "Maps" feature.

The 32GB iPod Touch is available at all Apple stores and Apple Authorized Resellers at a suggested price of $499, while the 16 GB iPhone is also available immediately at a price of $499.The 8 GB model continues to be available at $399.

To the person who complained that there is no microphone, why wait, there are plenty of other non-apple choices already available *today* for a wifi phone, the Nokia E51 for example.

Jobs is Outta Touch
By: Dr. Dave , Wed, 06 Feb 2008 18:43:30 GMT

Jobs is out of Touch. But he has always been a hit or miss kinda guy.
If he wants to excite the marketplace in the middle of a recession he needs to lower prices and stop offering out of touch pricey items that only he and his wealthy friends can afford. He has an obligation to shareholders to stimulate sales not depress them.
He should be bundling offers like free trial movies or songs with new purchases to generate interest. Americans are losing homes at a rate of 7000 a day. Instead he is acting like we’re still ascending in the housing bubble of yesteryear and will pay any price for new gadgets.

The Real World
By: CT , Wed, 06 Feb 2008 18:32:58 GMT

Oh yes, upgrading their products and keeping the price the same is so terrible. How dare that Apple try to improve upon a product without sticking it to the consumer. Maybe we should go back to 19 inch CRTs with the rotary knobs.

Cool but ridiculus
By: Greg G , Wed, 06 Feb 2008 18:24:36 GMT

Everyone loves more storage, even if they can't fill it up. 8 GB extra for $100 just isn't worth the money. It cost apple about $1.00 to put in the extra 8 gb. They could have a 200 GB iphone if they wanted to.

never
