LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 Microsoft is coming out with software that lets consumers receive and hear text messages from cell phones through U.S. car radios, Chairman Bill Gates said.

The Sync software, appearing in a dozen Ford Motor Co. vehicles this year, is similar to systems widely available in Japanese and German cars, The New York Times reported.

It also allows users to connect media players to a vehicle and make hands-free cell calls, Gates said Sunday night at the opening of the International Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas.

Our ambition is to give you connected experiences 24 hours a day, he said. In thinking about that, one of the areas demands special work and that is in the car.Gates also showed how software and hardware embedded throughout a home allows family members share entertainment and information and even redecorate on demand, The Washington Post reported.
