Microsoft has announced that it has released Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 to manufacturing on Monday. Users who are on the Active Software Assurance coverage with Microsoft can get Windows server 2008 earlier than March, when it is slated for a general release.
The Windows server 2008 is due to be officially launched on February 27 at Las Vegas, according to a released statement. Windows server 2008 includes new features like Network Access Protection besides boasting of Group Policy applications.
Microsoft also said that there would be reduced power consumption for customers deploying Windows server 2008. Meanwhile Vista and Windows server 2008 have got similar tools designed to hike efficiency.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told analysts on Monday that Vista had gotten a good reception and was being deployed by many big corporations; most notably Continental Airlines. "We think we are turning the corner in terms of enterprise deployment, and Service Pack 1 will be a huge boon," Ballmer added.
David Zipkin, senior product manager in Windows Client Group revealed that the company had detected some issues in device drivers on systems that had SP1 installed. He added that the Vista team would spend the upcoming month straightening the issue.
Microsoft said that it plans to release Vista SP1 in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese sometime in mid-March. The update will be pushed via Windows Update, but users can also access it on the Download Center.
