Dortmund, Germany - Former Borussia Dortmund star Lars Ricken is looking into an offer of the Columbus Crew club for a possible move into US Major League Soccer, German news reports said on Monday. Kicker sports magazine and the Ruhr-Nachrichten daily said that Ricken will fly to the US soon for a first-hand look at the Ohio club which finished ninth in the last MLS season.
"Lars will fly to the US and have a look at the club. If he likes it there it is possible that he will soon play in Major League Soccer," Ricken's advisor Kon Schramm Schramm was quoted as saying by the Ruhr-Nachrichten.
Ricken, 31, played in Dortmund for more than a decade. He is best remembered for coming off the bench to score the final goal in Dortmund's 3-1 triumph over Juventus Turin in the 1997 European Champions League final.
Nowadays Ricken is an amateur player at the club and a trainee in Dortmund's club management. Sports director Michael Zorc said that Ricken would be allowed to leave the club if he wants to join Colombus Crew.
