Los Angeles - A concert film starring a teenaged girl ruled North American box offices on a weekend dominated by the Super Bowl, the professional championship of American football. Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert debuted in first place with 29 million dollars in ticket sales for the Friday-Sunday period, according to preliminary studio estimates issued Sunday.
The film is based on last year's sensational concert tour, inspired by the Hannah Montana television show. On the programme, Miley Cyrus plays both herself and a pop star character named Hannah Montana.
The film, screened only in 683 3-D cinemas, had a price tag of 15 dollars per ticket, and set a record for fewest theatres for a movie opening at number one.
