Is the Sony Walkman back, albeit in a slightly upgraded and joint venture guise? Well today the worlds leading mobile giant, Sony Ericsson, put its eggs in the Walkman basket to help revive its sales figures. At a launch today four new models were unveiled, but the W800, the first phone to sport the Walkman name, overshadowed the other models.
So the question remains, does the Sony Ericsson Walkman do the great name justice? Sony Ericsson W800 is the first product to combine a mobile phone, a high quality Mp3 digital music player and a 2 Mega pixel camera. It also comes equipped with a 30-hour long life battery.
Quality stereo headphones, 512Mb Memory Stick Duo capable of holding 150 of your favorite tunes or 10-12 full length CDs are the other features included in the W800.
"We looked carefully at what people want from a mobile digital music player and have designed a product that fits the bill," says Rikko Sakaguchi, Senior Vice President, Product and Application Planning of Sony Ericsson. "The W800 has great sound quality, is easy to use, has superb battery life and can store a large amount of music. It’s an attractive, desirable device that combines high quality phone, camera, music and games player."
As yet prices for the new W800 handsets have not been made definitive however it seems that US$400 / Euro 300 / GBP £200 will be tha approximate values.
