Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has released version 3.90 of its firmware update, which brings Skype functionality to Sony's Slim & Lite PlayStation Portable devices. North American PSP users will also get this new feature on their devices.
Users can sign up with Internet's leading Voice over Internet Protocol service provider and can make and receive calls via their PSP. Sony had revealed about the Skype deal at the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas earlier this year.
However the company was later hit by a small snag that affected Japanese users. The microphones available with PSP in Japan were not compatible with Skype; hence the rollout in that region is being delayed.
Sony has also introduced Go!Messenger icon with this firmware update. However the features of Go!Messenger will only be activated at the end of next month, Sony revealed. Go!Messenger is available to all PSP users regardless of the model they own.
Currently clicking on the Go!Messenger icon will take users to the web site of the messenger where they can get information about the various features available with the service.
