La Paz - Bolivia's President Evo Morales has declared a state of emergency following flooding and landslides caused by heavy rain, national media reported Tuesday. Since November the La Nina climate phenomenon has claimed 24 lives in the South American country through unusually heavy rainfall.
The declaration will make easier the release of aid for the around 22,000 families affected by the disaster.
The flooding and landslides have broken communication links between the east and west of the country, the roads authority said.
Every four or five years La Nina brings very heavy precipitation to South America.
