A Florida man who won a legitimate lottery jackpot after being convicted of counterfeiting lottery tickets has died in a mysterious killing.

Anthony Soltys died Friday afternoon. He was shot the night before and then dumped in the middle of a Fort Lauderdale street, The Miami Herald reported.

Soltys pleaded guilty in 1989 in Florida to altering or counterfeiting lottery tickets. He was sentenced to probation but spent some time in jail for violating it.

In 1994, Soltys and his partner, James Lynch, split a $2.2 million jackpot in the New York Lottery.

In 2006, Soltys sold his future payments from the lottery to Peach Holdings for an estimated $200,000. Lynch sued him for domestic violence and won possession of the house they shared and their two dogs.
