The Coca-Cola Co. has agreed to remove some posters in Russia after Orthodox Christians in the town of Nizhny Novgorod said the ads were blasphemous.
Religious leaders said posters advertising the soft drink show distorted images of well-known churches, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.
"Coca-Cola uses all these Orthodox symbols in a blasphemous way by placing images of Coca-Cola bottles inside the pictures," protesters said in a letter to local officials last month. They said some church images were deliberately turned upside down, including the crosses.
The soft drink giant said Monday it has decided to remove posters depicting Orthodox churches in Nizhny Novgorod, the news service said.
