SEATTLE, Jan. 17 "Shrek the Musical" is slated to make its world premiere at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle this summer ahead of its planned fall opening on Broadway.
DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions Ltd., have announced performances of "Shrek the Musical" will begin in Seattle Aug. 14 and run through Sept. 21.
Preview performances will begin on Broadway in early November at a theater to be announced, the producers said.
Based on the story and characters from William Steig's book "Shrek," as well as those of the DreamWorks Animation blockbuster bearing the same name, "Shrek the Musical" features a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori.
The show is directed by Jason Moore, who staged the Tony-winning Broadway musical "Avenue Q" in 2004.
Casting and additional members of the creative team will be announced shortly, the show's producers said.
