Bautzen, Germany - A mother who allegedly offered her two children on Ebay for 1,000 euros (1,460 dollars) a day is under investigation, police in Germany said Thursday. An entry on the internet auction site said the girl, 11, and boy, 12, did not get any affection, but had an "inexhaustible capacity to love," according to the newspaper Bild which saw the advertisement.
One of about 90 people who enquired about the mysterious offer alerted police.
Police said they had not arrested the Russian-born mother, and were first trying to establish if she or someone else had placed the advertisement.
"This is a human trafficking inquiry, which initially is against the mother, because she was the owner of the Ebay account," said Christopher Gerhardi, a prosecutor in Bautzen, eastern Germany.
The home of the children and their two parents in the city of Hoyerswerda has been searched by police.
