LONDON - Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has made s donation of $2.2 million to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London as a token of appreciation for saving his daughter's life.
Britain's Daily Mail reports that Depp visited the hospital personally just one day after winning a Golden Globe for the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. His daughter Lily-Rose was admitted to the hospital in March last year after she developed kidney failure following an E.coli infection.
Depp and Vanessa Paradis, the girl's mom and companion of the Pirates star spent several days at bedside in the hospital. Nine days of intensive treatment followed, after which Lily-Rose was fit enough to be discharged.
In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, Depp had said that his daughter's condition was the worst thing he ever experienced. "To say it was the darkest moment, that's nothing," he said. "It doesn't come close to describing it. Words are so small."
Depp seems to be greatly attached to the hospital as he had visited kids at Great Ormond on November 29. He entertained the sick tots with bedtime stories in the garb of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Depp and Vanessa Paradis also have a six-year-old son named Jack.
