Los Angeles - Striking Hollywood screenwriters have struck a deal with The Weinstein Company that will allow the leading New York film company to resume production on its movies, the sides announced late Thursday. Terms of the deal were not announced. Trade paper Variety reported that the pact mirrored a similar agreement signed by the Writers Guild of America last week with Tom Cruise's film company, United Artists.
The deal comes as the writers' dispute with the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers is in its 10th week, taking a heavy toll on leading TV shows like Desperate Housewives and 24. It has prompted cancellation of the Golden Globes awards show and is threatening the Oscars show in February.
