NEW DELHI, Jan. 9 India says it is in search of a partner to jointly develop oil reserves in Syria.
The issue could be discussed during the visit of Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Dardari to India, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said Wednesday.
"There is a possibility of the two countries entering into a partnership based on long-term strategic and economic considerations," said a ministry official.
He said Syrian and Indian government-owned companies want to partner on long-term strategic and economic projects. Dardari is due in India Jan. 14-21.
The aim of this exploration would be to assist Syria in becoming a strategic hub between Southern Europe and North Africa, and between Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf, and to develop north-south and east-west oil and natural gas transportation pipelines, the ministry official added.
