Mexico City - Roberto del Fierro, the publicist of Mexican singer Jesus Elizalde was shot in the head late Tuesday in the Mexican city of Guadalajara, and died hours later in hospital, the country's media reported Wednesday. Elizalde, known as "El Flaco" (Skinny), is the brother of musician Valentin Elizalde, who was killed in November 2006.

His death was allegedly tied to organized crime, which has been blamed for the killings in the past two years of over a score of singers of the North Mexican music style known as norteno.

Local police told daily El Universal that Del Fierro was standing in the street in the town of Zapopan, in the suburbs of Guadalajara, in the central Mexican state of Jalisco, when an attacker got down from a van and shot him.

He was rushed to hospital but died hours later.

Investigative police official Marco Antonio Venegas Mendoza said the motives for the crime were not immediately known.
