HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 7 Hollywood's Golden Globe Awards ceremony, squeezed by the writers' strike, may air as an hour-long NBC News special, it was reported Monday.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hands out the awards, has been working with NBC to find a way to orchestrate Sunday's event, so stars could attend. The Screen Actors Guild announced last week its members would not cross a Writers Guild of America picket line to get into the gala.
The WGA threatened to picket the ceremony if it is televised by NBC, a struck network.
Insiders told Variety.com, however, the guild would not picket the event if NBC's Golden Globe Award coverage was limited to an hour-long news special announcing the winners from the Beverly Hilton hotel.
The WGA is not keen on NBC's proposal to run clips, retrospective specials and "Access Hollywood" party coverage, in addition to the news special, however, Variety.com said.
If the HFPA has its way, television and movie stars would go down the red carpet, then proceed to various Globes parties.
An HFPA official would read off the film and TV winners at a designated time and cameras would cut to star reactions from the various party sites or winners could go to a press room to give reaction statements during a live telecast, Variety.com said.
NBC declined to comment on the possible new plans.
