BAGHDAD, Dec. 30 In the end, death came quickly for Saddam Hussein on a gallows somewhere in Baghdad, the capital from which he had ruled Iraq for decades.

Saddam was hanged early Saturday morning. The execution was held before dawn so it would not occur during the Sunni observance of Eid, the Muslim Feast of the Sacrifice.

The former dictator was put to death four days after an Iraqi appeals court upheld his conviction and death sentence for killing 148 Shiite men and boys in Dujail in 1982 and less than two months after his trial ended. The hanging cut short a trial for massacring thousands of Kurds and precluded other trials.

Witnesses said Saddam was quiet and obedient as a noose was placed around his neck, The New York Times reported.

He just gave up, said Mowaffak al-Rubaie, the country ' s national security adviser. We were astonished. It was strange. He just gave up.Rubaie said that the execution was held outside the Green Zone and was an Iraqi operation from A to Z, CNN said. An official from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's office said that after the hanging some of the witnesses danced around the body.

    SADDAM
By: BP- INDIA , Tue, 02 Jan 2007 06:56:31 GMT

IT IS SAD THAT AMERICA, A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY, TIME AND AGAIN SUPPORTED DICTATORS ALL OVER THE WORLD AND THEN GOT THEM REMOVED WHEN THEY DID NOT SUIT THEIR PURPOSE OR TURNED AGAINST THEM.
CIA HAS LEFT A TRAIL OF DEAD OR DETHRONED DECTATORS ALL OVER THE WORLD. EVEN OSAMA BIN LADEN WAS A CIA CREATION. CIA SEEMS TO FUNCTION AS THOUGH THE VALUES THAT ARE ENSHRINED IN THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION DO NOT APPLY TO THE REST OF THE HUMANITY. UNFORTUNATELY THAT REFLECTS VERY POORLY ON THE AMERICANS (WHO ARE NICE PEOPLE) AND ULTIMATELY THEY DO PAY THE PRICE. IT IS SAD THAT AMERICA FIRST CREATES A MESS AND THEN TRIES TO CLEAN UP THE MESS AND PAYS A HEAVY PRICE INTHE PROCESS.

    Saddam
    By: JJ , Sun, 31 Dec 2006 22:15:45 GMT

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Judgement is mine saith the Lord.

    Thou shalt not kill.

    And, we out Saddamed Saddam.

The article is incorrect; Saddam was not submissive, his murderers taunted him at the end. He stood bravely and told his taunters they weren't acting manly. He also condemned the U.S. et al.

    Hang those who supported Saddam

I think those who helped Saddam, such as USA,Britain, and France should be given death penalty just as Saddam.

    Saddam

Those of you who think President Bush is responsible for Saddam Hussein's hanging need to get a life and a dose of reality. How dare you compare President Bush to Saddam Hussein. Since 9/11 our President and his people have done a fine job of protecting us on our own soil. Hussein was a terrorist and a heartless individual. I won't even classify him as a human being. By the way President Bush is NOT acting like God. That's what Saddam did as he believed he was God.

Do you extreme leftist believe we should not have taken out Hitler?

If you don't like your Freedom here, then leave and go live in a country with a dictator like Saddam.

    By: Sick , Sun, 31 Dec 2006 03:55:37 GMT

We created him, we funded him, we sold him weapons. Hey even Rumsfeld is shaking hands with him in 1983, one full year after he killed those people he was on trial for. What a sham, here is the graphic video with sound of a made in America lynching.

Fair, but doesn't make Bush innocent
By: Ben Dineen , Sun, 31 Dec 2006 02:53:27 GMT

Cao said "The trial was run by Iraqis, the hanging was done by Iraqis and Iraqis danced around his body and you say Bush did it. heh. Only in the mind of leftists do the atrocities of murdering dictators deserve to go unpunished. "

Yes Cao, Saddam desevred to be remove from power and executed - but do you really think that Bush played no part in it? The fact that the execution was carried out by Iraqis is purely ceremonial - designed to give the public the impression that the Iraqis have some level of control over their country. Only a right-winger would be stupid enough to think replacing one dictatorship with another is a noble act. It's also interesting to note that your blog deals alsmost entirely with the military - I hope you realise (but suspect you don't) that the purpose of the military is to serve and protect the people - it is subordinate to us, not the other way around - We can't run America and dictate our foreign policy on military values.

    Justice Served
By: Rich Gonzalez , Sat, 30 Dec 2006 21:15:09 GMT

What kind of ignorant and uneducated readers do you have? Saddam was a mass murderer of his own people!!! What do you not understand about this evil man? Justice was served, not only to Iraq but to the world. Thank God for President Bush that he had the resolve to bring him to justice when most of the world and the inept UN just allowed this monster to terrorize his people and his neighbors. By the way he was torturing and killing his fellow muslims. For the rest of you, be thankful for the power and might of the United States of America who is ready to defend freedom anywhere around the world!!!

    Hussein
By: Dr. Delhi , Sat, 30 Dec 2006 19:59:42 GMT

Whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. If he sows to the wind, he shall reap the whirlwind. Death and destruction were the pathway of Hussein. He ruled ruthlessly and received his just reward.

Live by the sword die by the sword.
    By: GISH , Sat, 30 Dec 2006 19:56:46 GMT

At least he was killed more humanly than the people he killed. They should of televised it.
The whole world needed to watch it. He was partially responsable for 9-11. Lets all admit it,he was a terrorist. He died they way he lived.
Thank God that we have a President like Mr. Bush in the office. Its better to fight the terrorist in their yard instead of ours.
God Bless America and God Bless President Bush!

    not fair

Why Saddam Hussein? Why not the Bushes&Cronies?

Why is only Saddam seen as bad and not the main devil BUSH?
    By: Z , Sat, 30 Dec 2006 17:11:53 GMT

I am soo appalled and disgusted with the fact that Mr.Bush has got saddam executed. If he calls sadam a "people killer" then Bush is equal or actually worse, since he is the main one behind people getting killed all over the world. another thing is that Bush has chosen the day of Eid-Ul-Adha on purpose since he is against all muslims. ok maybe i agree that saddam has done some bad things but he did not deserve to die like this. anyway, saddam was not ashamed of himself and wanted to be executed without the hood - which is a slap in the face for bush!
Sddams bravery and strong will is something to admire.
bush is the one who deserves to die- christians, jews, sikhs ,every culture/race /religion around the world says that bush should die and peace will be met. Tony blair i cant stand no more, since he is a little tag tale.
Anyway, i seriously hope that the brother of saddams' is not hanged like this, since it is so evil.
one more thing_ "BUSH please leave iraq! theres not many people left to kill now , i know your next target will be Pakistan and other muslim places."

Hes acting like hes God, well sorry, hes sooo the oposite.
i hope everyone reads this comment.
p.s- why are these parliment people heartless? well anyway, saddam had been literally murdered, and that too for his country. may Allah give him a place in heaven. ameen.

    thankyou.

    is bad

    thanks

    Unfair
    By: Antonym , Sat, 30 Dec 2006 11:05:29 GMT

The killing of Saddam Hussein is unfair, If we'll start saying who's killed have to be killed I am sure the first person would have been George Bush then the others.
