Ingolstadt, Germany - Audi is extending the range of the A3 compact class with a convertible in preparation for German showrooms by next February, the manufacturer announced. Customers have the choice between four engines and a wide assortment of extras.
The vinyl roof, that opens and closes in nine seconds, is available either in fully automatic or semi-automatic or in a
specially sound-proof version.
Two petrol and two TDI diesel engines are available in the range from 77 kW/105 hp to 147 kW/200 hp.
In the Ambition line, Audi is offering the A3 convertible with 17- inch wheels, sport chassis and sport seats. The Quattro version has an S Line exterior sports package.
Audi said it opted for the classic vinyl roof because of advantages in space-saving design and more harmonious proportions. The large rear window is heated. When closing, the roof folds together in a Z-shape taking up less space thus avoiding the necessity to move the rear seats forward. The windscreen has the same angle as the conventional model.
Among the extras are a multi-functional leather steering wheel, comfort air conditioning system, leather seats with heating, a parking assistant, xenon plus headlights and curvature lighting.
