BURLINGTON, Ohio, Dec. 16 A 5-year-old quarter horse is recovering on an Ohio farm after falling into a cistern.
The horse, known as Bo, was in six feet of water when rescuers were called to his Burlington pasture, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Sunday.
"It was horrible," said Linda Smiley, who owns the horse. "He was in the water thrashing around. He was extremely tired. He wanted to just give up. After several hours, he was just floating there."
Rescuers and volunteers took turns holding the horse's head above water as crews put the animal in a harness so he could be lifted by crane out of the cistern.
"As soon as his feet touched the ground, he started kicking and thrashing," Jay Smiley said.
