STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 16 The Swedish National Roads Administration has rejected a municipality's request to use a sign featuring a woman's shape.

In the name of gender equality, Hassleholm Municipality designed a new pedestrian crossing sign with a "very feminine" female figure, municipality roads chief Anders Servin was quoted Sunday by The Local.

"This has also been fun for Hassleholm, as we are first in the country," Servin said.

The national roads administration, however, rejected the new sign as too confusing, The Local said.

The administration said the female road sign could be confused with the traditional road sign featuring a male figure known in Sweden as Herr Garman, which translates as both "'Mr. Walk Man" and "This is where you walk," the Local reported.
