BANGALORE, India, Dec. 15 A 2-year-old girl who had four extra limbs removed a month ago was released from a hospital in India Saturday.
Lakshmi Tatma had four arms and four legs when she was born. Doctors said that the limbs came from a conjoined twin that did not develop a head.
Sharan Patil, the surgeon in charge of the complicated operation at Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore, said that Lakshmi made a quick recovery without any complications, the BBC reported.
"Lakshmi is normal, eating well and in good spirits", he said. "She has responded well to the post-operation treatment."
In addition to removing the unneeded limbs, doctors had to separate her spinal cord from that of the twin. She spent 27 hours in surgery.
The little girl may need more surgery to correct club feet.
