Saarlouis, Germany - One of the mothers involved in a baby mix-up at a German hospital is just 15 and might let the other couple keep both the babies in a happy end to the tragedy, a newspaper reported Friday. Hospital staff carelessly swapped two newborn girls six months ago at the hospital in the western border town of Saarlouis. The parents of one baby only gradually realised the error. A DNA test proved the mistake.

Officials then scoured the area for the couple's own lost baby, checking out a dozen other families.

The Saarbruecker Zeitung, in a report to appear Saturday, said the missing child had been found with the under-age mother. Her unintended high-school pregnancy was the result of a relationship with a youth, also under-age.

The adult couple have received their own baby back and were considering adopting the changeling whom they have been showering love on for the past half year, the newspaper reported.

Officials believe the babies may have been mixed up when their identification armbands slipped off while the infants were being washed, and were put back on the wrong wrists.

Municipal officials declined to comment on the new report, saying this would breach the families' rights to privacy. In a brief statement Wednesday, officials said both babies were healthy.
