Washington - At least 33 people have died, mostly in Oklahoma traffic accidents, since heavy ice storms started glazing the mid-west region Monday, reports said Thursday. More than 300,000 people continued to be without electricity and storm refugees have packed emergency shelters across the region.
Heavy ice turned electric lines, telephone poles and trees into lethal objects and sent cars spinning on slippery roads. The region braced for more bad weather in the form of heavy snows starting Thursday. Schools in many areas remained closed.
