HOUSTON, Dec. 13 A newly elevated Roman Catholic cardinal, the first from Texas, said a U.S. immigration policy targeting illegal immigrant workers may fail.
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, 58, said in statements at a luncheon with Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry that the emphasis on illegal workers made any legislation ineffective, the Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.
"Certainly we want to protect our borders," he said. "At the same time, punitive measures alone are going to be ultimately ineffective, and I think counterproductive."
DiNardo said the Catholic bishops in Texas support widespread immigration reform that focuses on family reunification.
He emphasized that his key concerns of immigration, abortion, capital punishment and health aren't issues that fit into the platforms of the political left or right. Copyright 2007 by UPI

Why do politicians like Mr. Perry continue to fool Texans on what illegal immigration from Mexico is really about? Forgive me for asking this question, "But are you people in Texas crazy?! Get rid of him, know how to help yourselves, for petes sake.

Hey, the Catholic and other religious organization are no different from any of the corrupt big businesses. They want to exploit the illegals also. Only grossly naive folks would believe otherwise. Fill up the baskets, right?

Looming financial problems for the Catholic Church

The Catholic Church and a number of other churches have had unlimited oppurtunity to lessen the misery in Latin America, but couldn't locate their present compassion for these same beings until there was also a financial benefit for the churches as well. The Catholic Church does not have the funds to care for its aging clergy any more than the U.S. government has the funds for Social Security and Medicare far into the future. The Church is hoping that it can pass the huge costs of retirement and health care for American Catholic clergy onto the general American public through "comprehensive immigration reform". The Bishops' idea of moral high ground isn't only the sacrificing of Catholic children to pedophiles in their brotherhood, it is also plundering those who have never set foot in a Catholic Church. Behold, the modern day Pharises.

The Cardinal approves of family reunification. Americans do too - as long as it takes place in Mexico and all the other places they come from to break into our country. When they present fraudulent documents, steal IDs, and Social Security numbers, which most do to get jobs, they have committed a felony. Does the Cardinal also approve of American felons? Shall we close the jails and let all the criminals out? Just where does it stop? When I was young, the Church sent missionaries to other lands to minister to the people. Now, they want the countries to move here. I wonder if this goes for all races and people, or is the concern only for Hispanics.

Since when does the Catholic church decide for the majority of Americans what laws will fail or not?
Current immigration laws need to be enforced and Americans put first. We have a lot of poor Americans that the church can be helping. By putting ILLEGALS ahead of Americans they only make America poorer. Teach ILLEGALS how to fish for themselves in their own countries if you want to help them.
Churches need to get their noses out of this or lose their nonprofit status.
