Los Angeles - The American musician Ike Turner, who reached fame with his former wife Tina Turner through hit songs like "A Fool For Love" and "River Deep, Mountain High," has died, an internet news service reported Wednesday. The rock'n'roll pioneer died at age 76 at his home in San Diego, tmz.com reported. No cause of death was given.
After his marriage collapsed in 1976 under charges by Tina that he had beat her psychologically and physically, Ike's career failed to swing back up to its former highs until 2001, when his album "Here and Now" was nominated for a Grammy in 2001.
He suffered from alcohol and drug addiction, and spent 17 months in jail for drug possession in 1990.
Tina Turner went on to become a name for herself, sought after as a performer and personality. Her book, "I, Tina," was a bestseller, with its story of how Ike also financially betrayed her.
The film about their marriage, "What's Love Got To Do With It," was a huge success in 1993.
