I can live with criticism of Gambon the actor and "screenwriter." But he did not select the costumes, did he? His are terrible. They depart from the books and from those provided for Richard Harris in the first two movies. Harris was given royal robes; Gambon was given last week's laundry. Is this his fault? Who was the wardrobe person?

Gambon Not Fit For Role

I absolutely agree that Gambon was a poor choice for Dumbledore. Harris was an imposing figure, and intimidating at times as well as kind. Gambon is just flamboyant and over the top in the role. He brings nothing to it. Ian McKellen would have been a better choice as well as Patrick Stewart. Heck, i would have taken Sean Penn at this point, over Gambon. I miss Harris.

Gandalf of LOTR is much better for Dumbledore role

Richard Harris is a much better Dumbledore and really depicts the character. However when they chose to look for a replacement I was expecting Gandalf of LOTR to play the role instead, because Michael Gambon, is far less than what the book describes as Dumbledore..and the film has already been done different from the book for the last 2 perhaps movies...to ever be rewritten...what's the point of having said...based on the novel.

Replace Gambon

JenniMiki, they'd have done better if they HAD asked you. Patrick Stewart WOULD have been an excellent replacement for the late Richard Harris, although I have trouble imagining him with long hair and a beard. If Michael Gambon is affronted by being asked to speak the lines JK Rowling wrote for him in the books, then he should quit--and if he doesn't quit, he should be fired--and let someone more suitable take over for him.

I would rally to have him fired! That is INSANE that they would let him rewrite his script! I have worked in TV and have never seen ANYONE modify the script. It has to be approved by the screenwriter and in this case, the origginal author!

Aww... so he doesn't like his lines... GET OVER IT! He's not the one who wrote the books... without which he wouldn't have this role, so the guy just needs to grow up and deal.

You know, I think since Rowling has written some incredible dialogue, and when I watch the Potter movies and realize it's word-for-word - well, I love those parts! What arrogance! How I wish someone else had been chosen for Dumbledore. Patrick Stewart would have been perfect, in my opinion. A yelling Dumbledore instead of a Dumbledore with twinkling, mischievous eyes just doesn't fit. *sigh* If only they had asked ME when they cast him. LOL ;) (I'm kidding; don't freak on me.)

Personaly, I feel the movies stray too far from the origional story in the first place. We don't go to hear Micheal's Words, we go to hear JK's Words. He should remember, he was at least the 3rd choice for the role

This is unusual, since I have read that he doesn't read the books. If that is true, that is really strange

Gambon

Sad to say, but Richard Harris was a much better Dumbledore than Michael Gambon. Harris showed the true character that J.K. Rowlings described in the books. Dumbledore is suppose to be an extremely intelligent, powerful wizard with an understated elegance. Michael Gambon has made Dumbledore low class in both dress and mannerisms. So, of all the people who should rewrite his lines, Gambon is the lest likely in my opinion.

when did Gambon become a screen writer?

It must be really awful to be given a script that has been taken straight from the hand of the original author...Sounds like a pretentious git to me. At best, he is sub-rate in his portrayal of Dumbledore.

The books are great! The movies should use more of the lines!

The books are great! The movies should use more of the lines! I think he has been an awful Dumbledore and I am disappointed they are letting him rewrite his lines. The Dumbledore in the books is a noble and wise man and is sensitive and caring. The Dumbledore in the movies is angry and flat.

I don't particularly like Michael Gambon's version of Dumbledore. BUT, when forced to do so, I've learned to accept him. However, in this instance, he seems to be a bit of a prima dona. JKR wrote the books the way she did, and chose her words carefully. Why does Michael Gambon think that he is a better judge of what the charactor of Dumbledore would or would not say?
In my opinion, some of the emotion and action in his portrayal of Dumbledore seems forced and not real. Quit overacting, and let the Wizard in you show through, Michael!
