NEW YORK, Dec. 12 A New York man showed up for jury duty this week only to find himself under arrest for bringing along a cane that concealed a sword and a dagger.
Police who detected the hidden weapons Monday said Vladislav Lisetskiy, 40, told them he didn't know it was illegal to bring a 2 1/2-foot sword and 6-inch knife into Brooklyn's Supreme Court, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Lisetskiy didn't even make it to the metal detectors before the officers correctly sized up the deadly cane.
"It had two metal bands. It's an indication that something is concealed. My officers noticed it right away," said Maj. Luz Bryan, who heads up the court security detail.
Lisetskiy allegedly told the officers they could keep the cane. They did, and also charged him with misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon.
