TOLEDO, Ohio, Dec. 11 A former Toledo, Ohio, city councilwoman who said she was kidnapped at gunpoint last week has admitted her story was a hoax.

During questioning by police Monday, attorney Karyn McConnell-Hancock, 35, recanted her allegations that she'd been kidnapped and released near Atlanta last week. Her husband, Bishop Lawrence Hancock, reported her missing Wednesday after she didn't show to pick up their child at day care, the Detroit Free Press said.

Hancock, bishop of the non-denominational Final Harvest Church in Toledo, later held prayer vigils.

She was found Saturday morning, northwest of Atlanta, by a passing motorist.

Charges for falsely reporting a kidnapping may include a misdemeanor for a false police report or felony obstruction of justice, the Free Press said.
