She may not be having the best of times as far as her personal life is concerned, but erstwhile pop princess Britney Spears continues to be popular with many people across the world. The evidence to back this claim came from an unlikely source - the Yahoo list of top searches for the year 2007.

Her frequent trips to rehab, the public shaving of her head and her protracted custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline have kept Britney in the top bracket of Internet searches on Yahoo. The pop diva has features in the Yahoo top ten list for six of the past seven years, underlining her iconic status.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) was at number two with wrestler Chris Benoit topping the most queried term. The latter killed his wife and son before hanging himself earlier this year. It was not all about celebrities though as "pet food recall," "dog food recall," and "peanut butter recall" made the top 10 list, underlining the concern over frequent food recalls in the US.

"People weren't just buzzing about celebrity. More than ever, they sought to be environmentally responsible, [and they] were using the Web to find out about food and product safety and getting the scoop on the latest gadgets," said a statement issued by Yahoo! Web Life Editor Healther Cabot. "Searches can give us insight into a culture in motion."

Other popular search terms on Yahoo included Saddam Hussein, Iran, Iraq, oil and gas prices, Virginia Tech, besides Al Gore and the Environmental Protection Agency.
