LONDON, Dec. 4 An international study of education has found some Asian countries have overtaken European ones in student achievement.
The Program for International Student Assessment ranked 57 countries based on the results of tests given 15-year-old students, the BBC reported. The information was gathered by the Organization for Economic Development.
The Top 10 for math were Taiwan, Finland, Hong Kong, South Korea, Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Macao-China, Liechtenstein and Japan. In reading, the leaders were South Korea, Finland, Hong Kong, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia, Liechtenstein, Poland and Sweden.
South Korea has made especially rapid strides since 2000. Its students have effectively moved forward by an entire school year.
