New York - UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari plans to visit Myanmar again this month or in early 2008 to pursue his mission to bring democratic reform to that country, the UN Security Council president said Tuesday. Gambari had visited Myanmar, formerly Burma, twice this year and last week toured some Asian capitals in an effort to canvas support for democratic change in the country led by a military junta, which used military force to crush pro-democracy demonstrations in September.
Italian Ambassador Marcello Spatafora, president of the 15-nation council for December, said Gambari plans a return visit and discussion was underway for the trip.
