Hollywood star Brad Pitt is on a mission - to set it right for residents of New Orleans, who were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Yesterday the 43-year-old actor unveiled plans for eco-friendly as well as flood-proof homes for residents of the Lower Ninth ward in the flood-ravaged city.
Pitt has put in $5 million of his own money and is hoping big individuals will also contribute to the project. "This is really an adopt-a-house campaign," said Pitt. " I'm asking for foundations, for high net-worth individuals, for church groups, for corporations to come in and adopt a house-basically, 150,000 dollars will get a family back in their home."
The houses will be built on slits and will include eco-friendly specifications including fluorescent bulbs, bathroom fixtures or appliances that are environment-conscious.
The 'Troy' star old E! Online that he had selected the pink shade for these homes as "t screams the loudest. It says that this place, where so many people thrived, is still sitting there like a barren wasteland, and we can change that."
In a lighter-vein he also admitted that he was looking forward to see how the homes looked on Google Earth.
