Abu Dhabi, Nov 26 - More than 120 business leaders from the Arab world will meet on Nov 29 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss corporate environmental responsibility and ways to promote cleaner production technology.

The Arab Corporate Environmental Responsibility (ACER) summit is being organised by THE Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) in cooperation with Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD). The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) are supporting it.

The summit will discuss a proposed declaration on the ACER and cleaner production technology, news agency WAM reported Monday. These discussions are expected to pave the way for programmes to ensure environmentally sustainable business practices.

Participants at the summit will also discuss successful regional experiences. This will be followed by round table discussions covering energy efficiency and climate change, water issues, international standards and interaction among business, governments and society.

'The summit launches AFED's activities which aim at developing corporate environmental responsibility and promote the creation of a common market for environment-friendly products,' said Najib Saab, Secretary General of AFED.

The meeting comes less than two weeks after King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia announced an initiative at the OPEC Summit in Saudi Arabia to create a fund for financing research on energy, environment and climate change. His initiative was immediately supported by the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar.

AFED is a pan-Arab non-governmental organisation founded by leading personalities active in the fields of environment and sustainable development.
