SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 21 Several people were concerned this week when a 747 jetliner, festooned with images of ballet dancers, flew precariously low over San Francisco Bay.
While some residents said the sight of the large low-flying aircraft adorned with pictures of ballet dancers was disturbing, local airport officials and a spokesman for the plane's owner said there was nothing to worry about, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News said Wednesday.
"We are perfectly capable of landing big planes," San Jose airport spokesman David Vossbrink said of Monday's attention-getting incident.
Turns out the plane got a temporary makeover as part of a deal with the San Jose Ballet, whose members were set to fly out the next day for a performance of "The Nutcracker."
The aircraft had been loaned to the dance troupe by the family behind Fry's Electronics, which purchased the plane for such travel endeavors, the newspaper said.
