London - A rare 1920s biscuit tin in the shape of a sports coupe car fetched a world record price of 15,600 pounds (32,130 dollars) at auction in London Wednesday. Auction house Bonham's said a private buyer from Britain pushed the bidding higher and higher from the maximum estimate of 3,000 pounds to what was believed to be a world record auction price for a biscuit tin.
The car design features electric headlights so that a child could play with it after eating the biscuits.
It was sold with its original box, made by biscuit makers William Crawford and Sons, and carrying the inscription: "To Ted wishing him many Happy returns of the day from Lady Eleanor."
