Tel Aviv - Israel has agreed to allow farmers in the impoverished Gaza Strip to export flowers and strawberries to Europe, Israeli media said Wednesday. The goods will be exported via terminals in Israel and the measure was approved after Palestinian farmers and Israeli exports appealed to the High Court, the Ha'aretz daily said.
Exports of flowers and strawberries to the European Union brings in approximately 25 million US dollars each year.
Exports were cut off after following an Israeli decision in September to declare the Gaza Strip a "hostile entity" because of ongoing rocket fire targeting Israeli towns and villages adjacent to the salient.
