WACO, Texas, Nov. 18 Baylor University Sunday fired head football coach Guy Morriss, who guided the team to a record of 18-40 in five years at Waco.
Director of Athletics Ian McCaw said he told Morriss the school is making a "change in the leadership of our football team."
Morriss -- in one of the toughest jobs in football -- failed to reverse Baylor fortunes, as the Big 12 school has not had a winning season since 1995 when the Bears went 7-4.
"I believe the football program is in better condition now than when I inherited it," he said in a statement.
The Bears were 3-9 overall this season, and just 0-8 in the conference.
McCaw said the search for Morriss' successor will start immediately, with the help of a search consultant, though no timetable was set.
"A national search will begin immediately to identify and recruit the very best person to lead Baylor football into the future," McCaw said.
